Brainstorm Bees
Just trying to brainstorm different directions I could go down from my research. Really like the nicknames, honey and home products and the built by designers.

Group Crit
After the group crit the other day I was in two minds whether to take the Honey products further whilest looking at other peoples ideas. I feel that when I started off with Bees and now I'm producing work for Honey products it seems like it's only gone in one direction. However printing wise it might be good to print on different materials.
Wax Stamp
Response to the label: Stamps at Design Context
Maybe what I produce the promotion side to the Honey products could include a wax stamp with the smell of the actual honey I am promoting.
Maybe the wax stamps can be rubbed and give off the scent of the honey products. The image with four stamps on may be to costly to print. So maybe advertise one smell for one product but put on information about the other products?
The above diagram is working out how the stamp would work. Where would the stamp be used on the products or in the advertisements?
Maybe a certain hexagon design to give the product range identity. Would the wax stick to the other page in a double page spread, maybe it would have to be made out of a more durable material, or a scented spot colour.
Fragrance Printing:
With thousands of different fragrances to choose from, it is possible to give print an amazing scented quality.
There are two ways to achieve this:
1. By adding the fragrance to the prints coating, giving it a fragrance life span of approximately 24 hours once subject to the atmosphere.
2. The fragrance can contained within an encapsulated polymer. The fragrance is only released when the polymer is agitated "scratch and sniff", giving a much longer life span and controlled release.

These are just examples and experiments for mock up wax stamps. Maybe use a circle lid or hexagon shape lid and put the rubber image in after so theres no overspill of wax

Range
What range of products can I produce based on Honey to explore the print processes?
- Remedies Cartons
- Energy Bars
- Range of Honey Glass - Plastic
- Posters
- Billboards
- Buses ----- What would be appropriate for Honey? relate to Bees, or aimed at target audience?
- Transpromotion - Letter heads with adverts for products
- Newspaper
- Festival - Van, shirt, toast and honey sandwich bag, Cups for honey drinks
- Magazine pages - Cost?
- Tent
- Banners?
- Stickers for bag
The list continues need to decide what to base the range on
Three Nets
THE IDEA ABOVE WAS TO USE A COFFIN AND THE BLACK AND YELLOW COLOURS AS A WARNING OF THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BEE WITH THE CROPS THAT BEES POLLINATE ON THE INSIDE OF THE COFFIN.
The above Product was kind of a last minute idea to replace the coffin as I realised that the reason we were asked to use the nets given were nets that are used alot and if iI asked for a coffin net it would cost alot to produce.
As I could only use one image I decided to make pop outs of the food chain so people realise what importance the Bee's role is.
The net above was a way of telling people a harsh fact to grab there attention and realise the importance of the Bee.
The final colours and stock worked really well. The texture was almost smooth similar to the Bee's fur. If I did it again I would try and work the bottom net more to add more character to it.
What to do?
What I intend to do.
Basically from my research I have found out how important the Bees role in pollination is. 30 % of the crops we eat are pollinated by Bees. The government are spending £10 Million on researching into a way of helping to raise the numbers over the next five years. I also think that honey products could be rebranded to make them more clear and understandable to the consumer as the products on the shelfs at the minute look dated. Also from reviews I have read about honey is that the traditional glass jar is to messy. Also as the brief is to find out about print processes It would be a good idea to do a range of products.
Three Nets
These are the three nets I have chosen to base my brief on. I have chosen these as they are easy to fold and make because I am not the neatest person trying to put a box together.
Festivles
From my research I have found out that honey has good qualities for coughs, vitamin c, releasing energy fast and many more. However I think that it could be a good idea to set up a range for festivals in the summer. This will be good because it would be the right season for Bees to make honey.
At festivals at the minute there are burger stalls which cost around £5 each. The other food sold similar like hot dogs and chips aren't the best thing to eat outside for three days, so maybe If there was a store producing a range of Honey products, it will be better for them and also is good when your run down/ Vitamin C, Coughs and colds and also releasing energy fast.
Catergories for Honey
A list of different categories I made for Honey. If I decide to base the project on rebranding Honey or similar products I need to identify what if different from my products to others on the shelf. Also as I found out Honey isn't that clearly labelled or categorised, I wan to produce some work that instantly says what the product is.
Lightest Shade to Darkest Shade
Runny to Thickest
Different Flavoured Honey
Where the Honey comes from?
Remedies
Remedies with Nicknames
A few ideas how I could Brand the range of Honey products, I quite like the flavoured range and the remedy range the most. Also this are ranges that aren't clearly labelled on the store shelves.
Honey & Home
Idea for a product which contains Honey as well as a bee home after the consumer has ate all the honey. It also shows a detailed story line of how I got to the idea.
Messy Honey
Traditional glass jar containing honey. From my Design contexts blog I have found reviews that alot of people think that honey is messy. I bought some honey when visiting Leeds Chairman of Bees and I have to agree it does make a mess. So I am looking for a better way to dispense the honey.
Maybe something like a Prit stick method to get the honey out with a smaller valve on the top for more control.
Combing a bee home inside the middle of the jar so as well as buying the product you can also help out by putting the house in your garden to help raise the bee's numbers.
Something similar to a toothpaste dispenser, the material which holds the honey would have to be flexible but thinking about it now it would be messy
I think this is the best way for lees mess when dealing with honey and also including the Bee home inside. It would be a plastic material so you can cut the top and bottom of so theres just a bee home left ready to put in your garden after all I want to find a way of helping to raise the bees numbers as part of my brief.

Linney Questions
Linney Design
Questions that I want to consider asking or what I want to achieve?
Table and costs of different printing methods.
How much more is the cost for a spot colour?
How much for the spot colour to be foil blocking?
How much does it cost to fold a5 leaflets in two?
How long does it take to print x amount of flyers?
Maybe take in the example of The Warehouse Project and base answers on this?
How long would it take to print 500,000 Warehouse Project flyers?
Take some time before Friday to finalize the list of questions and add to them if I think of anything else I want to find out.
Take camera and notepad.

Linney Design
An email I sent to Linney Design based in Mansfield my home town. I thought it would be a productive day if I went to collect some first hand research from Linney's printers and should learn further about Design Production Print. Below is the email I sent Linney's then the reply from Linneys.
Miles Linney
Hello my name is Paul Brandreth currently studying Ba Graphic Design at Leeds College of Art. For my brief I have been asked to research into different printing processes and document them. I am aware that Linney has it's own print section to the company from when I had a day visit with West Notts College with course tutor Julian Bray, however we focused the day at more the design processes rather than printing. I was wondering if it would be possible one afternoon, if I could be shown around the printing processes you have at Linney's to help with my research and collect primary research.
Thank-you for your time
Paul Brandreth
